Well just so long as you avoid BT, Tiscali, Plusnet, Orange, AOHell and TalkTalk you should be ok.
Smart money is on Entanet and BE of course as ever since they do not throttle anything, as opposed to most of the others. Beware of "fair use" policies which of course means "we will throttle the traffic you use the most to 2kb/s at peak times when you most want to use it whether its P2P, gaming etc". The ones I named above are really good at that. Plusnet managed to block the CS ports once, although that specific example can't be a bad thing.
I'm also alive and kicking arse regularly on Bagpuss Playground (DODS). I even found my old DOD config and fired it up, but Nicey's clan has a ludicrous number of reserved slots so its a waste of time trying to get on their server and all the rest of the dod servers with the exception of Boots are dead anyway.
Oh and I ran into badger who immediately tried to recruit me. Oh and Trouty_God. I've also run into a painkiller, a Dr.Love and a Flatline, none of which I think were the real thing.
Oh yes and I ran into a total Dick who is now using another ridiculous name. Something about flying mouse spunk or something.
